Greenway and 8 Hills Projects

The Worcester, Bromyard, Leominster Greenway Project

The purpose of the Worcester Bromyard Leominster Greenway is to create a walking, cycling and horse-riding track along, or as near as possible to, the course of the original Worcester Bromyard Leominster railway. The route is about 25 miles. It passes through some of the finest Herefordshire and Worcestershire countryside as it crosses the Bromyard plateau before reaching the Teme valley. The Bromyard-Leominster section was closed in 1952 and the Bromyard-Worcester section closed 1964.

The Aims

The aim is to follow as closely as possible the old railway route all the way from Worcester to Leominster via Bromyard. A secondary aim is to connect wherever possible into existing walking and cycling routes forming a bridge between the West Midlands and the Marches. Our aim is to deliver the scheme by building support within the community and by negotiation with the landowners.

8 Hills Regional Park Project

The National Trust is looking at ways to improve access to green spaces around large urban areas.

To this end, they are considering a scheme to wrap around the southern edges of the Birmingham and Solihull conurbations, to develop a sustainable green corridor accessible to walkers, cyclists and horse riders to encompass 8 hills including the Lickey and Clent Hills.

Plans are currently at a very early stage, but our views along with the BHS have been sought, and there will be studies and surveys in the not too distant future to ascertain the feasibility of such a scheme.

Latest news regarding this exciting project. Please take time to complete their questionnaire so we can ensure there is adequate provision made for Horse riders.

We are writing to let you know that this week we launched the community consultation for 8 Hills, which is being delivered as part of the spatial framework development.

We’ve invited over 150 community groups and parish councils to take part in the consultation to help us understand their needs and challenges in relation to green space.

Our consultants at LUC have created an interactive map, which can be used to capture comments and suggestions. I would like to invite you all to add on to the map any opportunities and constraints that might be helpful for the development of the spatial framework. The map can be accessed at the following link:

https://8-hills-regional-park-spatial-framework-luc.hub.arcgis.com/

There is also a survey, which captures more personal perspectives, which you are welcome to complete.

We will keep the consultation open until Monday 13th March for you to record your views.

If you have connections to any community groups who might be interested to take part, please let me know and I can send some introductory text that you can share with them as well.

Many thanks for your help and continued support.
